One day at the time 2016 Painting Mixed media 140 x 70 cm
I have being in the process of becoming a danish citizen for already 8 years, renewing my residency permit several times during this year, the gov- ernment as well renew their rules and have make them tighter, and more di cult for immigrants from outside Europe to renew their permits as well as to get residency or nationality.
ese paintings show an older man counting days and weeks pass by as this is the way I feel during this process, I feel I am just getting older, wait- ing for a permit to permanently live a life with my wife. “One day at the time” and “One night at the time” represent the way i feel the day i received a letter from the police 2 months a er I had sent my ap- plication to get the Danish nationality, i almost passed out when I saw this letter, i breath deeply and sit on the sofa and opened the letter very care- fully, I was shaking and sweating cold, as I start reading the letter I realize the is nothing hurtful or negative, it stated only that they had received my application and I should wait minimum 16 months for an answer.
